Last few weeks have been crazy-busy for me, with work, personal life, editing my novel, and writing a new short story. They’re eating up all my time. When things get frantic, I tend to find that writing down my projects and where I’m up to, gets them out of my head and I don’t think about them as much.
So here’s my current project status:
- Dead Lies (YA Dark Fantasy novel): Am still in deep editing mode, filling in gaps, fleshing out characters and locations, and doing a tonne of research on mythology. This part of writing is quite heavy and easily wears me out.
- Death Stalker (Short Horror story): I’m up to third round of edits, before sharing it with my critique group, but I keep putting off the edits. Really need to kick myself to hurry up.
- Cursecaster (YA Gaslight Fantasy / Romance): Outline complete, and first half chapter written. I keep thinking about this story, wanting to sit down and just write it, but then I feel guilty for not editing, so been putting it off. Might try to squeeze a few hours a week for this story.
My thoughts are to continue editing Dead Lies, getting 1-2 chps done per week, maybe more, complete Death Stalker in the next day or so, and make every Friday morning – cafe writing day, where I can tackle Cursecaster. In between there, I’ll go to work, spend time to hubby, family and maybe have time for myself:)
Am I the only one struggling sometimes to fit everything into a day?

Those are a lot of projects!
I sometimes have trouble fitting everything into a single day as well.
Me too…. don’t know what I was thinking…:)
Oh no, definitely not the only one! It sounds like you’re figuring it out, though, which I’m still working on. Good luck!

It’s one of those things I’ll be always tweaking I think
No, you’re not the only one. Writing things down helps me feel more in control – the on- writing things that is. I hope things settle down for you soon
Thanks… I’m hoping so too:)
You’ve got a plan, girl! A failure to plan is a plan to fail, right? You’ll succeed if you keep evaluating your progress and adjusting your goals the way you have. You’ll do great. : )
So true… I like that.
Wow, that’s a lot. I try to work on only one project at a time. It’s easier for me. Though when there’s a lull, like I’m waiting for chapters back from critique partners, I’ll outline or write another project. But now that I’m also in my final edits for my latest book, that’s where all my focus is.
I tend to find when I swap between projects, I see the stories with fresh eyes… it helps.
No you’re definitely not the only one – although I’m not nearly as productive as you!
Not sure I’m that productive… I still have those days where I do nothing at all….
You’re super busy! I think you have a good handle on things, though. I’ve been catching up on blog stuff and I revised a few chapters of my novel this week. I had hoped to have it done by the end of this month, but I won’t be able to do that. I’m aiming for the end of next month instead. Have a lovely weekend!
I’m just staying afloat I think… just means I have to pick and chose what things I participate and don’t participate in…
I like the titles of your books and short story :0). And yes, the time issue…*sigh*. I’ve decided that being busy is not likely to change soon, so being very careful with my time is where it’s at these days. It seems to be working. Mostly. Ahem. :0)
I like that… being careful with time…
I haven’t had any time to write lately, but I’ve had lots of time to think, i.e. flesh out characters and brew up my next plot. Thinking time counts!
That’s just as important as writing…
I like the pretty buttons that you found to use as illustrations for your post.
Thanks… I found this cool site which offers a bunch of them for free… not often you hear that… check it out. http://icons.mysitemyway.com/
Three projects at once? I’m impressed!
It might very well drive me insane
I definitely wish there were more hours in the day! I like to write out my status too to stay organized.
Exactly:)
I never have enough time. It’s usually my own fault, because I get bogged down with reading blogs rather than writing. If I stayed awake from blogs, or limited myself, I’d probably have loads of time!
But blogs are so addictive… I have the same issue:)
Oh man I wish I had 9 days a week instead of 7. You have a lot going on. I have to constantly remind myself that even though it may not seem like it, I am making progress. I’m like you, I make lists and set goals for each month. I may not always make my goals, but I make progress and that is the important thing. Good luck! I know you can do it.
Wouldn’t that be wonderful 9 days in a week… of course that would be mean a 4 day weekend… I like it.
You are right, and I try often to observe how the raining come, and I understand
that “drop with drop shall make the lake”.
Yep, one step at at time will do the trick.
You’ve got even more than me going on and I can barely stay afloat! I know the feeling of thinking that I’m totally out of sorts until I set down goals to follow (even though I tend not to follow them – its still nice to know they are there!). Hope you get everything accomplished!
Thanks
