I’ve always loved cooking, baking in particular, so when I ran across a foodie pen-pal program, I was very excited to participate.
Lindsay from The Lean Green Bean came up with the idea. Check out her blog for the finer details, but the basic idea is that at the beginning of each month all participants are allocated a pen-pal (this is done geographically to cut down on postage costs) You make contact with them, try to work out what they may or may not like, then you send them a hamper of goodies for a total of about $15. The idea is that you don’t send a parcel to the same person who is sending you one… makes it more mysterious that way.
My pen pale for May lives in Philippines, and I really hope she loves the parcel I sent her. Of course I had to include Tim Tams.
The lucky person who got me this month is the awesome Bec from Brisbane, Australia. On her blog, Half-Baked, she creates simple, healthy yet delicious meals on a uni student budget. And on top of that she’s such a sweet person.
Well let’s get to the opening part. The awesome box of goodies Bec sent me.
So many goodies, reminding me of a picnic hamper. The turkish delight came in different varieties and the cocoa will be going into a chocolate cake I’ll be making. The cherry fruit paste looks so good, so what better thing to do than make something deliciously sweet from it. Just haven’t worked out what yet. There are yummy looking almond cookies, BBQ crackers and healthy muesli bars. I feel very spoilt.
Thank you so much Bec.
So till next month when I share with you my next foodie package.

I love this idea. I imagine people being exposed to different foods or food that hasn’t been tasted in a while.
I just learned about the Foodie Pen Pal scheme, and I’m in for next month. I can’t wait.
That cherry paste looks like it would be a much better thing for Cherry Ripes than the jam I used. Although, being in Australia, I suppose you can get them easily.
I got a bit addicted to them on holiday, and was so sad I couldn’t get them at home, I decided to have a go at making my own, but I didn’t quite get enough cherry kick in there. I’m going to have another go with real cherries soon, the first Dutch grown ones are just hitting the markets now.

I love turkish delights! Also that cherry fruit paste looks great! Did you end up making anything with it?
Not yet, but am thinking of cherry scones:)
That sounds like a lot of fun. Yay foodie pen-pals!
What a fun idea! I’m a total foodie myself.
I love Turkish Delights! They remind me of my childhood and totally make me smile when I see them. I don’t eat them anymore though… Hmm… wonder if they’re vegan? lol
This is an AMAZING idea! I love food! And I love the idea of getting to try fun treats from different areas and friends. Thanks for sharing, Tania. I think it’s something I’d like to try. :0)
That sounds like a fun idea.
Soooooo cool! We’re part of an International Dinner League, one couple from Australia, one from the Philippines and another from Germany, and then there’s us–the Americans:) We meet once a month for food and fun! Just fyi, if you pop over to my blog this week & enter a comment you enter yourself for a book or critique giveaway from author Jaime Rush~! Cheers
That sounds like a lot of fun. Where do you meet?
We meet at each other’s houses. We just all became friends through various outlets and formed it ourselves:)
I’ve never even heard of it. Honestly, it sounds like kind of a hassle. I guess it would be great for someone with time on their hands.
This is such a great idea!
That looks yummy! I’m not much of a cook. I prefer writing. My family’s always in awe when I surprise them with a meal I put some effort into . lol
Wow that is super cool how international foodie penpal has become! You got some great stuff!
ooooh that fruit paste sounds good!
They really look yummy. Nice.
That is a fun idea!
