Trendsmap: a real-time mapping of Twitter trends across the world. It shows you people’s trending topic with a geographical locations. (http://trendsmap.com/ or click the logo to go there)
How it works: basically you select a country, then a map will appear with a number of ‘words’ appearing across the map. These are the hot topic words discussed in that region. Simply click on the word and a small window will open up showing you the tweet reel on that topic. Additionally, you can customise your search to particular topics or events only if you wish. Not sure if the customised part is free though.
How to begin: jump in and start using. As simple as that.
Fact: Trendsmap was started by a company based here in Australia!
Overall: I really like this app. Of course, I searched the map for my home town to see what people living around me are twittering. How very cool. Give it a go.
Google News: offers the top stories of the day. As events happen you can talk about it on your platforms. Of course this depends on your topics of discussion, and not all of the news will not be relevant to your platforms, but it’s a good place to keep an eye out on thins as they take place. How it works: select the country you want to focus on. On the left hand side, are the Top Stories. A quick glance will let you know if anything appeals to you.
Overall: Once I’m in Google news, I use the search function to look up topics of interest. This will show me articles that appear in newspapers that relate. This is a quick look, and doesn’t take much time at all.
