Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Title: Forever (Book 3)
Genre: YA Paranormal
The thrilling conclusion to the Shiver trilogy.
In Maggie Stiefvater’s Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. In Linger, they fought to be together. Now, in Forever, the stakes are even higher than before. Wolves are being hunted. Lives are being threatened. And love is harder and harder to hold on to as death comes closing in.
My Thoughts (spoiler alert)
I fell in love with first two books, Shiver and Linger, in the Wolves of Mercy Falls series pretty much right away. We followed Grace and Sam’s desperate attempts to save each other as they fell in love.
So, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on book three – Forever, especially since this was the last in the series. I had to find out what happened to Grace and Sam and the wolves.
The side plots from the earlier novels came alive in book three. There were wolf hunters, protective parents, Isabelle and Cole being emotional wrecks, yet the underlying story was still how Sam and Grace were going to find a way to have a future together in the same form. It’s so refreshing to read a teen book where the love does not include being torn for a third person. The tension in the last quarter of the book was explosive, and I found myself hating the hunters, wanting them hurt for what they did.
For me, it was the characters who made this book an amazing read and the beautiful prose. There was a lot of focus on Cole, maybe a bit too much with a tonne of his backstory interwoven into the plot. This is probably my only qualm with the novel, because I wanted to know more about Grace and Sam, instead of spending pages on Cole’s backstory.
At the last few pages, I was scrambling through, thinking: What. No. It can’t be the end yet. I was sad to see the series end, but Stiefvater pulled it together magnificently. All ends were tied, and there was no predicting the end. I loved that. This is a series I will read again, and can’t recommend it enough.
Verdict: Go read it now!!!
