Music is my muse when I write.
I’ve used it for studying ing high school and university, when I’m at work in the office (ipod is perfect here) and for writing. It allows me to drown out all other thoughts and noises around me. When it comes to writing, I find certain songs will help put me into a certain mood. For example, when I’m writing fast action scenes or fighting, I put on fast, dance music with a strong beat, turn it up and let my muse just take over with the writing. Always works.
For each story I write, I create a new playlist in itunes. Last week Alexia Chamberlynn shared her top songs in her playlist, and loved seeing what songs inspired her current book. So, I’m sharing the top songs from the playlist of my current novel: Dead Lies.
Titanium – David Guetta featuring Sia (I love Sia’s songs btw) was there for me when I wrote the draft action and horror scenes.
Lise – Emilie Simon (French) always helps me slip into my character’s head. My character isn’t French, but Emilie’s songs have this feeling about it that reminds me of my character.
Born To Die – Lana Del Rey is perfect for when my character reflects on her life, how hard things are, but how she will never give up.
Jar Of Hearts – Christina Perri for when things look like they might never get better for my character. Yep, there are many hardships she faces and must overcome. Especially when a love interest is involved.
Guns And Horses – Ellie Goulding has the most gorgeous voice and beat… I can listen to any of her songs and just keep writing.
Do you listen to music when writing? If so, what’s in your playlist? What gets you into a scene?
