For a few months, I’ve had this new story idea tumbling around in my head, gaining momentum, growing in size, and finally, I decided it was time to put pen to paper. Or more specifically, fingers to keyboard.
Now, the thing about my new story project is that it’s heavy on contemporary romance. My stories typically fall under fantasy, filled with suspense, romance, monsters, and sprinkled with steampunk. So as you can see, I am a bit out of my league here. Or at least it feels that way.
Problem is that the story is chugging along, not flowing like my stories usually do. I feel like the plot isn’t moving fast enough. But I think I know the problem…I’m so used to having suspense woven into my plots that the new story isn’t moving as fast as my other stories.
I’m a few chapters in and am stuck as to whether to continue or return to genres that come more naturally to me. Or do I push forward? Maybe this is the time to reveal what I’ve written to my CP group for initial feedback?
Has anyone else had this problem?
