A couple of months ago I read The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater and absolutely loved it. It’s been on my mind every since, trying to work out why I enjoyed it so much. So, these are the reasons I came up with:
– Protagonist is a quirky girl with an eccentric family of psychics
– Four wealthy boys from a boarding school who have some serious issues and massive family problems
– Romance plays a very small subplot in the story
– Magic is subtly done
– A curse
– Ley lines
– Murder mystery
– A sense of belonging and relationships – two themes in the story
And upon reflecting on the above list, I realize what it is that has me so captivated – Realistic Characters. Each one of them has their own individual background and personalities. No one in this book is perfect, and that to me is the key. Who wants to read about a perfect person who has no problems.
Book 2 is coming out soon, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
What book has lingered in your mind long after reading it?
