Mythical Creatures in Writing, Part V.
This majestic bird can lift an elephant into the air – now what exactly it wants with an elephant isn’t too clear. Maybe it’s collecting the elephants like people collect statues, or maybe the Anka is gathering them as its minions. Don’t even want to think of the possibility that the elephants are its meal.
Anka
What is it?
An enormous, Arabic bird with a wingspan said to be the breath of five elephants. Not only does it supposedly live to 1700 years – wow that’s a long time, but it’s aggressive if it hasn’t eaten for a while, so approach with care. Hey, we can all get a bit cranky sometimes, so I sympathize.
Ability / Power
This magical bird is said to have a highly prized plumage that can be used as a medicine. Hmmm, good luck in trying to pluck a feather from this goliath birdie. Though in saying that, they are usually passive and can be domesticated. I’d say keep a huge sack of feed close by to keep the Anka appeased. Once tamed, the Anka could take you anywhere you want and fast – a bit of show off here is a must as you glide past villagers who scramble in fear 😛
Physical Appearance
While they look like eagles, they are a LOT larger. Watch out for their sharp talons and hooked beak, which are great for catching fish and pretty.
Did you know? The Anka is hardly different from the Roc (or rukh) – the legendary bird of pretty, often said to be white.
