Last Saturday (5th May) was international Free Comic Book Day, so I headed down to Books Kinokuniya to join the fun, then made my way to a comic store in Sydney for more goodies. I got my freebies, as did my hubby, not to mention I also bought some books. Couldn’t resist.
One of the best things from the day was meeting an awesome author, whose work I love. Scott Westerfeld. He wrote the cool Leviathan and Uglies series, and he just recently launched his first ever graphic novel based on the Uglies series – Shay’s Story. Which I got a copy – signed of course.
What famous authors have you meet that made you squeal?
That is really cool! What a neat way to spend the day – and getting a signature too:) Wow!
I know… I was pretty excited.
That sounds like a super-fun day! I’d like to meet a famous author or two some day, but I would probably be too nervous to squeal, and worried that I would say something weird. 🙂
And famous people always seem so much shorter when you see them in real life, don’t they?
Hehe… that is true.
I used to collect comic books. I no longer have the storage space for them. Someday…perhaps when I purchase a home. That requires so much money though.
Hubby has boxes of comics from his younger years… luckily they are still stored in his parent’s garage..
What an awesome event. I’m glad you met Scott Westerfeld.
I play it cool with authors, but I squeal inside.
I tried to play it cool, but it didn’t work:)
That’s so cool that you got to meet one of your fave authors. That is something I’ve never gotten to do, but definitely on my must do list!
Thanks… it was awesome
It’s awesome you got to meet Scott and got your book signed. Plus free comics. I can’t believe we missed free comic day! I met George R.R. Martin once and I got so nervous I lost my voice. A few other authors like Anton Strout made me go really red in the face. So embarrassing.
How cool… I would probably get all tongue tied if I met George too:)
Wow, Scott Westerfeld? I love his books!
I haven’t actually met any authors in person. But that’s definitely on my list of literary things to do. 🙂
I haven’t meet too many, but Scott was pretty awesome.
Oh that looks like an awesome day. I’m most jealous. I met Ursula K. Le Guin a few years ago. And when I lived in NYC, I stood behind Kurt Vonnegut in line at the newstand once.
How cool… it seems you can bump into lots of well known people in New York:)
so cool you got to meet Scott Westerfeld! love his uglies series:)
Happy weekend!

I haven’t met many authors I’ve swooned over. But I bet if I ever met one of my absolute faves I would lose my composure…just a little. 🙂
How cool for you! There’s a memory to hold onto.
For sure:)
That was very cool!
It sure was;)
Free comics? Nice! I remember going to a store on a free comic day last year, but the store had rules about what you could and couldn’t get. There wasn’t much of a selection. I much prefer yours. I haven’t met any authors, though, so I think you were very lucky :).
The only rules I remember were the number of free comics you could pick:)
That is pretty cool. I’ve gone to hear authors speak but haven’t really met any. Once when I worked in a bookstore an author randomly came in to sign copies of his novels and he was a little annoyed I didn’t know who he was. At first I was who is this crazy who is writing in a stack of books. Still can’t remember his name.
That is quite funny… I’m curious now to know who the author was:)
Me too. Wouldn’t it be funny if his books were on my 1001 list and I didn’t even know it or him. All I know is that he is a he and lived near Boston. That doesn’t narrow it down much. Oh and his novels were in the literature section–which could include anything.
Yeah, that is vague… if you remember, you’ll have to tell me:)
